When a Sub Job You Booked on Frontline Disappears, Sub Hero Now Tells You

Published: September 18, 2026

Substitutes tell us the same story: a job they accepted on Frontline was canceled, and nothing told them. Often the first sign is a gap on the schedule, or a school that was not expecting them. Sub Hero, a job alert service for substitutes on Frontline, now catches this. Since September 18, 2026, on either paid plan, when a job you have booked is no longer on your Frontline schedule, you get a notification, usually within minutes. It names the job and asks you to check with the school before you go. It covers every job on your schedule, however you booked it. Here is what the notice says, what it can't tell you, and what it costs.

A job you booked can disappear without a word

Whether you hear about a canceled job depends on the district, at least in what substitutes tell us. Some get a call or an email. Others find out from the schedule, or from the front office on the morning they show up. Either way, you planned a day around work that is not there.

The timing makes it worse. In our look at about 34,000 Frontline postings, 82% were filled more than two hours before they started. So by the time a gap shows up on your calendar for tomorrow, most of the other jobs for tomorrow are already taken. A notice that reaches you the same day the job disappears gives you a chance to book something else.

What the notification says

Sub Hero watches the jobs on your Frontline schedule, not only the open ones on the board. When a job you booked is no longer there, it waits a few minutes to make sure the job is really gone, then sends a notification by push, email or both, whichever you have turned on. The notice is short. For a job you booked yourself, in Frontline or from a Sub Hero alert, the title is "Booked job no longer on your schedule" and the message reads: "If you didn't cancel it yourself, the district may have. Check with the school or district before you go."

Below that it names the position, the school, and the date and time, the same details a job alert carries. If the job was one that Sub Hero auto-accepted for you on Pro, the title says so instead, and the notice adds that Sub Hero won't book the same job again automatically for 24 hours if it is posted again. You can accept it yourself if you still want it.

What it can't tell you

The notice comes with both paid plans, Standard and Pro. A free account, which needs no card, shows you the open jobs for your Frontline login in the app, but it doesn't send alerts of any kind, including this one.

What else a paid plan does

If you have not used Sub Hero before, this notice is one part of what a paid plan does for a substitute on Frontline. The rest is about not having to watch the board all day.

Both plans

Pro adds

Standard is $6.99 a month and Pro is $9.99 a month. Pro starts with a 14-day free trial, one per Frontline login, and you can cancel either plan whenever you like. A free account needs no card, so you can connect your Frontline login and see how Sub Hero works before you pay for anything. Before you connect any service to your Frontline login, including ours, it is worth asking a few questions first.

Where Sub Hero fits

Sub Hero is independent and not affiliated with Frontline Education. On a paid plan it watches your Frontline account, sends an email and push notification within seconds of a job matching your filters, tells you, usually within minutes, when a job you booked is no longer on your schedule, and on Pro can accept a matching job for you. It can't tell you why a job left your schedule, it can't see your Frontline non-work days, it can't get you a job someone else booked first, and it does nothing outside Frontline.
