Is SubAlert shutting down? What its own site says in October 2026, and what a current SubAlert user on Frontline should set up now
You have likely heard that SubAlert is closing. SubAlert has not posted that publicly on any page we could open, so we will not repeat what we have heard here. What its own site says is less than that. We read it on October 5, 2026. The sign-up page carries a notice that SubAlert is not accepting new customers. The homepage has no shutdown notice and no closing date, and it still shows prices and a free trial. So the sourced answer is this: closed to new customers, nothing published about existing ones. If you use SubAlert for Frontline Absence Management jobs today, that leaves you without a published date to plan around. This post covers what the pages say, what they leave out, and four things worth setting up now so your alerts do not depend on one service.
What SubAlert's site says, as of October 5, 2026
- The sign-up page. The Sign Up / Log In page shows a notice that SubAlert is no longer accepting new customers. The log-in form for existing customers is still on the same page.
- The homepage. subalert.com still lists "$4.95/month" for app, desktop and email alerts, "$6.95/month" for phone call, text, app, desktop and email alerts, and a "21-Day Free Trial, No Credit Card Required." It has no notice about closing.
- The iPhone app. SubAlert for Frontline Ed is still listed in the App Store. The listing shows version 4.1, dated 08/23/2019, and says nothing about closing or about new customers.
Our earlier posts cover the sign-up side of this: what to use if you cannot sign up, and why the homepage trial cannot be claimed. This one is for the sub who already has an account.
What the site does not say
- A shutdown date. None of the SubAlert pages we could open gives one.
- What happens to existing accounts. The notice is about new customers. It does not say how long current customers keep their alerts.
- What happens to billing. We found nothing about refunds, final charges or cancellation tied to a closing.
You have likely heard more than this, including a closing date. We have too. SubAlert has not posted it publicly on any page we could open, so we are not repeating it here. The Google Play listing would not load for us, so we cannot say what it shows. If SubAlert publishes a date, the places to look are its own site and any email it sends to customers.
What a current SubAlert user should set up now
None of this requires leaving SubAlert. It is about having a second way to hear about jobs that is already working if the first one stops.
1. Make sure you can get into Frontline on your own
If a service has been signing in for you for years, you may not have typed your Frontline password in a long time. Check it now. Frontline's Substitute QuickStart Guide says to go to app.frontlineeducation.com and enter your username and password. If you cannot recall them, the guide points to the recovery options on that page. Available jobs are on the homepage, with an Accept button beside each one.
2. Install Frontline's own app
The same guide describes the Frontline Education mobile app as a free app that "provides increased accessibility to job alerts and other job acceptance tools." You search "Frontline Education" in your app store and sign in with the same username and password. Frontline's mobile guide lists a Settings menu for preferences such as notification sounds, and an Inbox for alerts from your district. We covered what Frontline says about its notifications, and what it leaves unsaid, in a separate post.
3. Find your ID and PIN for the phone line
If you rely on SubAlert's phone calls or texts, this is the closest free fallback. Frontline's guide gives the number as 1-800-942-3767. You enter your ID number, then your PIN, each followed by the # sign, and press 1 to find available jobs. The guide also says that if a job has not been filled two days before the absence is scheduled to start, the system begins calling substitutes on its own, about one job at a time. Look up your ID and PIN now so you have them when you need them.

Set your filters once. Sub Hero watches Frontline for you.
Start Free — No Card Needed4. If you want a second alert service, test it while SubAlert still works
Running two side by side for a couple of weeks tells you more than any description. You see whether the alerts arrive, whether the filters fit the jobs you take, and what is missing, while you still have the service you know.
Sub Hero is one that is taking sign-ups. It sends an alert by email and push when a Frontline job matches your filters, within seconds of it matching. Filters cover school, district, position, day, time and length. A free account needs no card, and this post explains what the free account, Standard and Pro each include. Before you give any service your Frontline login, ours included, read what to ask first.
Know what you would lose. SubAlert's homepage lists alerts by app, text, phone call, desktop alert or email. Sub Hero sends email and push only. It does not text and it does not call. If the phone call is the alert that wakes you at 5:30, Frontline's own phone line is the better match for that part, and no alert service we know of that is open today replaces it.
What to check about your SubAlert account
- How you are billed. Find the charge on your card or app store account, and note the amount and the renewal day. We could not find anything on SubAlert's pages about billing if the service closes, so know where your subscription is managed.
- Whether alerts are still arriving. We have no account, so we cannot tell you how the service is running. You can. If a week goes quiet, compare it against the Available Jobs list in Frontline before assuming it was a slow week.
- The sign-up page itself. A notice appeared there once. If anything changes for existing customers, that page or an email from SubAlert is where it would show.
What we can't tell you
- Whether SubAlert will close, or when. You have likely heard things. SubAlert has not posted them publicly, so we will not repeat them here, and we will not guess.
- Whether SubAlert works today for current customers. We read its public pages only.
- What the Google Play listing says. It would not load when we checked.
- Whether Frontline's app and phone line are set up the same way where you work. Districts configure Frontline differently, and Frontline's mobile guide says the app is available to districts on a particular Frontline platform.
- Whether any of this is still accurate after October 5, 2026. Pages change. Check the links above yourself.
Where Sub Hero fits
Sub Hero is an independent service, not affiliated with Frontline Education, that alerts you by email and push when a Frontline Absence Management job matches your filters, and on Pro can accept it for you. It covers the app and email part of what SubAlert lists. It does not text or call, it cannot see the non-work days you set in Frontline, it cannot win a job another sub booked first, and it does nothing outside Frontline. If phone calls are how you book, Frontline's own phone line is the closer fit.
