Using SubAlert for Frontline jobs? Here is what Sub Hero does, what it does not, and how to set it up
SubAlert's sign-up and log-in pages say it is not accepting new customers. We read them on November 7, 2026; its homepage still lists its plans and a free trial. No SubAlert page we could open gives a date for current customers, so this page does not either. If SubAlert is how you hear about Frontline Absence Management jobs today, this page is for you: what Sub Hero does in its place, what it does not, what it costs, and how to set it up in about ten minutes.
Sub Hero watches your Frontline account and alerts you the moment a job that matches your filters is posted. Email, push and text; auto-accept on Pro.

- Alerts within seconds of a matching job. Sub Hero watches your Frontline account around the clock and alerts you the moment a job that matches your filters is posted.
- Filters. School, job title, length, days of the week, start and end time, and how far ahead the job is. Pick schools and titles from the list your district has posted, or describe the jobs you want in your own words and the app proposes the rules. Before you save, it shows which of your recent jobs the rules match.
- Texts. With a text plan, a job alert arrives as a text with an accept link; one tap opens an "Accept this job" page. Each auto-accept booking, and a booking the district withdrew, can be texted too. Quiet hours run 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM by default, with a switch to wake you for same-day jobs. Reply STOP at any time. A text plan is $1.99 a month for each 5 texts a day, on Standard or Pro.
- Email and push. Both are included in Standard and Pro. Use either or both.
- Auto-accept, on Pro. Rules you set book the job for you within seconds of it posting, up to 5 automatic acceptances a month. Auto-accept only considers jobs that already passed your job alerts, and before you turn it on the app shows which of your recent jobs the rules would have booked.
- A notice when a booked job is withdrawn. If a district pulls a job you booked, Sub Hero tells you. How that works.
What does not
- No phone calls. SubAlert's $6.95 plan called you. Sub Hero does not call. If a call is the alert you count on, Frontline's own phone line is the closer fit for that part; our post for current SubAlert users covers how to find your ID and PIN for it.
- No desktop alert program. Sub Hero runs in your browser and as an Android app. Alerts come by push, text and email.
- We cannot see the non-work days you set in Frontline. A filter has to cover the days you are unavailable, especially on Pro.
- We cannot win a job another substitute booked first. An alert tells you about a job. It does not promise it.
- Nothing outside Frontline Absence Management. If some of your work comes through SmartFind Express, this post explains how to tell which system a district uses.
What it costs
Each price stands on its own.
- Free account. No card. It connects your Frontline login and shows you the open jobs; it sends no alerts.
- Standard, $6.99 a month. Job alerts by email and push, filters, and one-click booking.
- Pro, $9.99 a month. Everything in Standard, plus auto-accept with up to 5 automatic acceptances a month. 14-day free trial, one per Frontline login.
- Text plan, $1.99 a month for each 5 texts a day. On Standard or Pro, up to 30 texts a day. It goes on your Sub Hero bill. During a Pro trial, a text plan costs nothing until the trial ends.
Cancel any time from the billing section in the app. A plan stays active through the period you already paid for. What each level includes, in more detail.
Set up in three steps
- Create a free account at app.getsubhero.com/signup. Email and password. No card.
- Connect your Frontline login. The username and password you use at app.frontlineeducation.com. Your credentials are encrypted with AWS Key Management Service and used only to check for jobs on your behalf and to book jobs you have approved through your filters. Sub Hero never posts, messages anyone, or changes anything in your Frontline profile. You can disconnect or delete your account from Settings at any time, which removes the stored credentials. If you have handed SubAlert the same login for years, this is the step that asks for trust; the questions to ask any alert service, ours included, are in an earlier post.
- Say which jobs you want. Describe them in your own words, or pick schools and job titles from your district's list. The app shows which of your recent jobs the rules match before you save. Pick a plan when you want the alerts to start.
For texts: Settings, then Notification Settings, then Text messages. Enter your mobile number, tap Send code, enter the 6-digit code, then choose a text plan size. Texts arrive on any phone that receives SMS.
Nothing here requires canceling SubAlert. Run both for a couple of weeks and compare what arrives.

Is SubAlert shutting down?
Its sign-up and log-in pages say it is not accepting new customers, and the log-in form is still there for current members. We read those pages on November 7, 2026. No SubAlert page we could open gives a date for current customers, and we do not print dates its pages do not state. If SubAlert has written to you about your account, go by that message.
Can I keep SubAlert and try Sub Hero?
Yes. Nothing in Sub Hero asks you to cancel anything else. Run both side by side for a couple of weeks, on a free account or a plan, and compare which alerts arrive and whether the filters fit the jobs you take.
Do you text?
Yes, with a text plan: $1.99 a month for each 5 texts a day, on Standard or Pro. A job alert text carries an accept link; one tap opens an "Accept this job" page. Quiet hours run 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM by default, with a switch to wake you for same-day jobs. Reply STOP at any time.
Do you call?
No. Sub Hero sends email, push notifications and text messages. It does not place phone calls.
Android or iPhone?
Both. Sub Hero runs in the browser on either phone and can be added to the home screen. There is also an Android app on Google Play. Texts arrive on any phone that receives SMS.
Does it work with anything besides Frontline Absence Management?
No. If your district posts jobs in SmartFind Express or another system, Sub Hero cannot see them. How to tell which system your district uses.
Is my Frontline login safe with you?
